ULMA Architectural Solutions’ polymer concrete Ventilated Facade system has been used for part of the refurbishment of Barcelona’s Hotel Catalonia Passeig de Gràcia.

The decision was made to preserve many components of the nineteenth century building’s original structure, including the spectacular facade with its glazed tiles bearing a vine leaf design, which largely remain intact.

ULMA Architectural provided the cladding for common areas such as the swimming pool terrace and the dining room. Architects Jacinto Arqués Fusté and Romà Arañó i Güell were seeking a material for cladding both the indoor and outdoor areas of the hotel, and ULMA’s polymer concrete Ventilated Facade was a good choice for both.

The aim of the new decor is to make a subtle reference to the historical essence of the façade, and the architects thus chose the white vine leaf textured tiles from the CREAKTIVE range, which they combined with the TIERRA stone texture from the VANGUARD range in M19 grey.

The project architect Jacinto Arqués Fusté had already used ULMA Ventilated Facade cladding for the refurbishment of the Hotel Catalonia Ramblas at Carrer de Pelai, 28 Barcelona.
