Toledo and Arrasate, this year’s winners of the 2 bicycles from the ULMA Group's Handicraft Competition.
The seventh year of the handicraft competition is on the subject of “recycling and the reuse of resources”. Once again, the smallest members of the household have demonstrated their abilities and proven that a predisposition towards recycling and ingenuity can extend the lives of different materials: plastic, paper, cardboard, sheeting, etc. and create true works of art.
Daniel Martín, from Ajofrín (Toledo), 4 year's old, creator of a guitar made out of a cardboard box, a kitchen roll, milk bottle caps, pita… and Lide Zubia, from Arrasate (Gipuzkoa), 10 year's old, creator of a merry-go-round, made out of a bicycle wheel, toilet rolls, plastic bottles, fabric, etc. won this year's competition.
The nearly 50 different works received were exhibited for the delight and surprise of their families, and all creators were awarded a small gift. In addition, and to the surprise of the attendees, the event was visited by “Maddi” the storyteller, who delighted with a “recycled” version of Little Red Riding Hood, that the kids really enjoyed. She also took it upon herself to demonstrate some of the handicrafts exhibited and ask their creators how they were made. And as it should be, envelopes emerged from her magic suitcase bearing the names of the two winners of this year's edition of the competition.
As noted by the kids that attended the prize-giving ceremony, they had a great time doing the handicrafts, and were fully involved in the task of obtaining all manner of materials from everyone in the family.
