ULMA's solidarity reaches Syrian refugees
The ULMA Group, via its foundation, called on its workers support in the campaign launched in the last quarter of 2015, and provided different channels for helping the UNHCR, from sending charity SMS messages to direct bank transfers and even the option of transferring money deducted directly from their salaries. The latter option proving to be the most successful of all.
Almost €6,000 euros in total was collected from just over 200 people who showed their solidarity with the humanitarian drama unfolding in the Syrian crisis, now approaching its fifth anniversary.
UNHCR is delivering their emergency assistance to besieged cities such as Madaya, Foah and Kefraya. The UN has received credible reports of people dying of hunger and assassinated or injured trying to escape the area. The last humanitarian aid provided by the UN was in October 2015.
Saijad Malik, UNHCR Representative in Syria, sent the following text message from Madaya:
“Crowds of hungry kids around. It’s heartbreaking to see so many hungry people. It’s cold and raining, but there is excitement because we are here with food and blankets”.
And this is how the ULMA Group, through its Foundation, and with the solidarity of its workers, has done its bit to help this cause, in which all assistance seems like a drop in the ocean, but which, when you add up each tiny contribution can make a real difference to life on the ground.
