Ulma Construction
ULMA Construcción uses advanced engineering in the Changuinola I dam in Panama
The first phase of the Changuinola I Hydroelectric Project, located in the Panama province of Bocas del Toro, includes the dam of the reservoir to be built on the river Changuinola, with a capacity of 223 MW. A total of 875,000 m3 of concrete was used to build the 99.2 m high dam.
With its considerable experience from many projects, ULMA designed a unique RCC (roller-compacted concrete) type formwork solution for the construction of this dam.
For the formwork upstream from the dam, ULMA designed a climbing system with metal panels that meets all the safety requirements. Below the dam, a system of metal panels was used combined with MK system elements for high load-bearing capacity, often used in civil engineering.
ULMA supplied 600 T of material within the scheduled deadline, thus meeting the requirements of both the client and the rainy tropical climate of the region.
